Your Lifestyle: How It May Affect The Potential Benefits of Massage Therapy...

Living in both Southern Louisiana and Denver, I've seen the benefits of massage that are constant and those variable elements that change with location.  I am speaking specifically of the level of health conscious living vs a sedentary lifestyle, of the two aforementioned places. Denver, is undoubtedly one of the most active cities in America.  In seeing a increase in the health conscious population, I have also witnessed a dramatic shift in the ways in which Deep Tissue Massage Therapy helps clients.

In Louisiana, there is definitely a health oriented population and I truly treasure my Louisiana heritage and upbringing; however, it's residents concern for proper nutrition, hydration and exercise truly pales in comparison. I've been in practicing Massage Therapy in Downtown Denver for a little over a year--During which I never drastically changed my massage style--so what else changed that could cause such notable change in Massage effectiveness.  Perhaps it is the fact that now instead of having a 80/20 percent ratio of sedentary vs active clients practicing healthy living; I know have a clientele with 95/5 percent ratio with the health oriented clients grossly outnumbering those who are, albeit blunt, lazy and unhealthy...again, not saying Louisiana is 100% obese or that Denver doesnt have a fair share of free-eaters--but the truth is evideny by visiting any park here in Denver or walking through Downtown Denver 16th Street Mall.

Seasoned therapists have shared a similar opinion of properly maintained And nourished muscles versus those of a sedentary person.  For those lacking proper hydration and nourishment, the skin generally feels dry and coarse in areas that are primarily untouched--unlike the hands, elbows or feet.  If this physiological change is notable at the outermost layer of our tissue, imagine what affect is caused to the deeper tissues of the body.

It's also welcomed common knowledge among Massage Therapists that Muscle tissues that are routinely excercised, stretched, hydrated and nourished respond differently and more readily to many massage techniques employed my Deep Tissue therapists--specifically, Muscle fibers and Connective Tissues that are accustomed to being activated, having a healthy blood flow and that are hydrated tend to be more easily manipulated and changed with Trigger Point therapy or Neuromuscular Therapy. The ability, willingness of the muscle fibers to change, with an active client, not only makes it easier to see results with the clients session but also the sustainability of the changes of longer periods of time.
